(Reading time: 1 – 2 minutes)
Benefit: Website and blog directories provide targeted exposure to your content, increasing the chance of relevant traffic.
Problem: Submitting blog posts to link directories can take a lot of time, and it’s important to know which directories are most effective.
Blog Better with a Virtual Assistant: Tip #5
How a Virtual Assistant can help:
- Many blog directories exist such as MyBlogLog, Blog Catalog, Blogged, IceRocket and many more. Submitting your blog to these free directories can help increase traffic and build community.
- Websites should be submitted frequently to various directories. Submitting articles can be automated, however, the software can be pricey. If a Virtual Assistant is performing this task for others it may be more cost effective to have her submit your site using her software.
- Your Virtual Assistant will have a better in-depth knowledge of which directories are best for your blog posts.
Why: We all want maximum exposure to what we write. While not all directory listings are created equal, regularly submitting your blog posts increases your exposure over time.
Do you have a directory submitting plan? If so, which is your favorite directory?

That is what my VA is doing. I don’t have a clue about which one I like. Isn’t that why I have a VA?

Ralph – of course, I didn’t think of telling you to contact me through my site. Thanks for doing that. I just sent a reply back to you.
Ralph:
That’s a perfect task for your VA and I’m so glad you have one helping you with that.
Each Virtual Assistant has different skills and if you are working towards more internet/web exposure you def want to work with one who has experience doing that.
Kind of like having a plumber do plumbing work and a lawn service to cut the grass.
Ask Dave for my email, I have another service I will tip you off about but don’t want to publicly put here within comments.

Nice move But How to get easy in the directory?

Luciser:
All of the directories mentioned in this post (presumably) will allow inclusion. Of course, I imagine they probably have content matter they disallow per their TOS, however, I have yet to run into a problem with any of them.
Others don’t believe in directory submission no more but I still do. And having a VA is really a big help since VA’s can take care of things that are not your expertise and it can also give you the chance to work on things that are more important like creating a product or moving on to new projects.

Andrew, I tend to go with the notion that it can’t hurt, especially when one has a process for doing it rapidly.

I’m with Dave – it can’t hurt. I did it for a client of mine – in under two weeks her Alexa dropped from 7,088,022 to 633,948. We are going to continue monitoring all her stats to see how they grow.

Until recently, I was a dedicated blogging DIYer. I wanted to learn everything about everything. That soon became a fast track to burnout (at least for someone with a limited technical skill set like me).
So I’m not submitting to any directories. Maybe I should be. Hey, Maybe I need a VA! I think you’ll be hearing from me, Michelle :)

I am a blogging newbie. I like the idea of a VA to help promote my site. Am I out of line to ask what I can expect to pay for this service?

Robin:
It really will depend on several factors with each VA but as a general rule of thumb most of the industry is right around $35/hour average.
You may very well find a gem that charges less.
