One A**, Ten Toilets – The Work-Work Balance – #dave #fail

(Reading time: 2 – 3 minutes)

You know, we need something in WordPress that fits between a “real blog post” and a Twitter update.

Turns out, I know about what that is, and about how to do it (need to hack me some WP core), but not near enough time to do it. Which is a pity, because you would like it.

So I’m watching a Gary V video on work-work balance (hence the title), and thinking, “This man has a good point.” (You should watch this video.)

I’m also writing a sales letter for tomorrow for a pre-release of Blog Post Engineering. It’s going slow. I’ll get it done.

I have a design refresh coming. Any day now.

Thesis theme needs to be upgraded.

WordPress 3.0 is coming out Real Soon Now.

I’ve also committed to placing my ad on someone else’s blog, and a third person’s ad on my blog, and I have the Blog Maintenance Challenge coming up, and Thursday’s repeatedly postponed article on how to set up your chart of accounts for your blogging business (everyone yammers on and on about “treat it like a business” but nobody shows you how. I can show you how. In detail. Loan me a day…) still isn’t written yet.

And clients. Existing and prospective.

Collaborators. Existing and prospective.

Secret projects. 2 in the works.

And. And and and and and and.

I’m relating to Gary V here strongly: I hate to say no. Not because I want you to like me (though I do), but because there is so much cool stuff to do!

I want to do it ALL.

Cain’t.

Not enough time.

So what to do?

Let’s make a deal…

I’ll honor every existing commitment.

But I need help saying “no” to everything else until my plate is cleared. Those of you who know me personally, check up, I’m cool with it.

If you don’t know me personally, but want to pitch me or work with me in some way, hold off until end of May.

However

If you want to pay me money to do something for you, by all means call me on the phone. Send me an email with your name/number, I’ll send you mine back, we’ll find out how I can help you.

This’ll be good for you Dave :)

In a ‘you’re still insanely overworked for the moment’ sort of way. Holler if you need anything, ok?

Heather, the only thing you and I have at the moment is semantic web technology. Read up on it, think about your graphics tips, you get drawn in on my next pass through hRecipe.

This is big. It’s low hanging fruit.

  3. Good plan, pause the minutiae and full speed ahead on the main stuff. Look forward to the Maintenance Challenge but I will wait on sending you the Atahualpa case study. Gives me more time anyway. Good luck Dave, if anyone can figure it all out you can.

  4. There is no way to do too much, I myself struggle to prioritize what needs to be done first, second…etc. Always put your content first, without content readers have no reason to come for something new. That is my priority.

Good for you. I am definitely there too. Gotta follow through on my current projects and hold off on anything new.

Work is bombing me right now. I probably won’t be around much for a couple weeks. Going on vacation next week…work and fun in Oklahoma and Mexico.

Good luck getting it all handled.

It’s so easy to get into a groove and not get to the high gain activities – funny how the small albeit important things seem to hijack your time. Totally with you and I am nowhere near as busy as you are – ok, maybe I am, but I think I spend more time knoodling on things just learning how to do them … now the tears! Take your time, do it well … we will all be here and cheering on!
