(Reading time: 5 – 8 minutes)
Remember the $15 Amazon gift certificate for the 1000th comment here on Website In A Weekend? Lisis scored that one. Actually, Lisis’ son Hunter scored a Lego Manta Warrior from this windfall! Thanks, Mom, you’re the coolest.

Another blast from the past… Recall “How NOT to Comment on Blogs (Dude, you’re busted).” Here’s more of the same type of commenting shenanigans, now reported by Lee Ka Hoong in Beware Of Comment Spammer In 2010! Some people.
I lurk all over the web. Sure, I comment too, but I do as much lurking as commenting, maybe a lot more really. Every once in a while, this lurking pays off huge. For example, occasional Website In A Weekend reader Elmot runs Pinoy Sounding Board, where he calls out all sorts of political shenanigans in the Philippine Republic. Check this out: Politicians on Pantyliners, The Most Ingenious Campaign Strategy There Is.I’m almost speechless.
One thing I can say: Politicians seem to be the same everywhere. One of those things makes you unsure whether to laugh, or cry.

Marshall Craw & Family report PR 3 for Real Off Grid Energy and Life. So does Walter Yu. If you have a couple of minutes, go visit both sites.
Here’s what they have in common:
- Tight niche focus.
- Regular posting schedule.
- Very few comments.
- Relevant and targeted outgoing links.
I can tell you for a fact Walter spends about 5 hours per month, maximum, on his web site. He’s got it down to a science. Why do I know this? Because he brings over a bag of groceries for stir fry, picks my brain, and pounds out articles 1, 2, 3.
If you want to pick my brain, show up with a bag of groceries. Just call ahead.
And stay tuned in as we watch Marshall and Walter keep growing.
Updated posts
Probably half (i.e., 100,000 words) of Website In A Weekend is evergreen or pillar content. This means it has to be periodically reviewed and updated. Which is boring, but necessary. With the Website In A Weekend eCourse now underway, keeping articles up to date is more important than ever.
Here’s this week’s crop of updated articles.
Updated Installing WordPress article from Friday Evening. Updated to use Bluehost’s Simple Script system, which I now use myself and recommend. It’s much better than Fantastico, as good as a manual installation.
More WordPress Simple Security: 5 Plugins to help you lock out unwanted visitors. Carlos found a problem. I fixed it. Details in comments.

Good round up here, Dave.
I love Lisis’ Quest for Balance site. It’s nice now and again to get philosophical and then see how it can fit into our lives.
Also looking forward to the Mastermind series continuation.
Have a great weekend, mate!
Gordie´s last blog ..Six Things You Should Do Daily To Succeed.
No offense but the best part of this article is the picture of the LEGO Manta Warrior! Not because the article sucks but that’s the coolest LEGO thing I’ve ever seen!
Gabe | freebloghelp.com´s last blog ..I don’t target my Twitter followers and I like it that way
Haha! Thanks, Gabe! What I should’ve done is taken a picture of the Manta ARMY my son put together. Once he got this first one (from his new best buddy, Dave) he decided that was what he wanted for xmas. So, he has a bunch of these guys. They have a cool tail, too, that I didn’t capture in the picture… and a trident. Good stuff.
And Gordie, thanks for the endorsement, too. I’m a big fan of getting philosophical from time to time… just to see what happens.

Lisis´s last blog ..The Harvard Psychedelic Club Blew My Mind
@Gordie – I write these Week in Reviews mostly for you regular readers. They’re fun, but time consuming.
@Gabe – Yeah, so cool! Bug Lisis for pictures of the whole army.
@Lisis – There’s a lot of people attempting what you’re doing, and not doing nearly as well at it. Most are just a little too self-indulgent. You’re striking the right balance with personalizing things to yourself while inviting the reader to share. If that didn’t make any sense, I don’t know how to explain it!
Dr Wordpress!´s last blog ..MasterMind Power I: How 5 Boys Achieved Unparalled Success
Don’t worry… it made sense. It does take a certain balance of sharing just enough personal info to keep it real, so others can connect with you, while not making the blog ABOUT YOU. That’s a line I’m always mindful of.
(Thanks for noticing!)
There’s sharing, then’s there’s oversharing.
Some people promote oversharing with “authenticity.”
I’m not convinced.
I’m not sure if pantyliner advertising is brilliant, or just kinda weird.
Also, that manta warrior thing is way cooler than the space men legos I had, that came in yellow, red, or gray.
Deacon´s last blog ..DayJob v ArtJob, Round 1 goes to DayJob
Brilliantly weird maybe.
Good wrap this week Dave, I checked out your article on spammers as well as Lee’s and thats pretty wild, looks like it’s going to the next level in regards to spam creativity.
Extreme John´s last blog ..Everyone Knows Me?
I don’t get who they think they’re trying to fool.
If it’s search engines, it won’t work for very long.
