Foodspotting: Twitter and Foursquare Hook Up for Dinner (& Week in Review)

Want a head start on the Next Big Thing? Sure you do, that’s (yet another) reason why you read Website In A Weekend!

Anyway, imagine Twitter and Foursquare go on a dinner date.

That’s Foodspotting!

Cool kids on the power curve

Here’s how it works. When you’re craving, say, balut, in Houston, do a search on Foodspotting for “balut.” Foodspotting searches it’s database, then returns you a list of all the places you can eat balut in Houston.

The cool part is that the whole Foodspotting database is user generated. When you’re out and about, you can take a quick snapshot of your favorite dishes and upload them to Foodspotting. You get points for this of course. Probably other stuff too, I forget now. But check it out, get on the Alpha list if you can.

Here’s a screenshot of the user interface:

I wonder if Alexa can get a tax write off for all her meals. This is a business expense for her right? Read more about Foodspotting, you saw it here first.

Blatant pitch for Bluehost

About a month ago, I swooped in and snatched dool.in for 10 years. After I purchased it, I needed to set up the Domain Name Servers to point at Bluehost’s servers, which required some customer service on Bluehost’s end.

It was fast and straightforward.

Here’s the last email exchange:

Thank you, I really appreciate it.

Blog post and testimonial coming,
I’m an affiliate for a reason.

Bluehost is an excellent shared hosting provider. They are inexpensive and have very good customer service. Any issues I’ve had with Bluehost are common to all shared hosting providers. (TANSTAAFL.)

If you’re looking for a shared hosting, consider Bluehost.com.

[Disclosure: I am definitely an affiliate of Bluehost, and proud to recommend their shared web hosting service.]

Good use of those title tags, Dave! LOL – nice warning, if anyone bothers to hover and read before clicking.

Of course you’re cool. But I’ll bet you haven’t yet worked up the nerve to TRY balut. Thanks for giving me a better picture of this Foursquare thing. I did sign up when you first recommended it – I just haven’t been too sure what to DO with it. (Trockle says that’s because I never take him nice places. Whatever THAT means!)

Balut isn’t on my normal circuit… just haven’t run across it… “nerve” has nothing to with it! Heh. Tried any chicken feet lately?

I think Trockle needs his own foursquare account.

Is that a dare?

You videotape yourself eating balut, and I’ll try chicken feet and “trotters.”

What do you suggest Trockle do on Foursquare?? A tour of the underside of kids’ beds? Wouldn’t that be a bit…odd?

You know, you could be getting yourself into a lot of trouble here. Deacon lives two blocks from Chinatown in San Francisco…

Oh yeah? Bring it, Dave.

But it has to come with video. Of YOU. Eating balut.

5 comments. I loved writing these week in review articles, but they really didn’t get a lot of traffic when they published, and they’re the least read articles on Website In A Weekend. What a pity.
