Mostly, I’ve learned that this field is so highly competitive that it’s very difficult to make a living unless you’re going at it 100%. Which was never my intention. However, I’ve enough about it to apply to other endeavors, and that’s a good thing. Plus, I’ve met a lot of very cool people, including great marketers, and that’s also a good thing.

Dave,
It is interesting to reread this post from the future, so to speak. Now that I’m a seasoned (though not successful) blogger and less drawn by the fantasy of thousands of hits each day, I’m trying to understand selling, creating value and understanding what I know that has value.

Part I enjoyed most about this article are the action items to stay on the "curve of the new" as Sean put it. @DiTesco – Fiction, not yet. As far as the rest, programming languages aren’t that hard to pick up, getting over the “too old to code” problem is a different barrier.

@Blake – I saw Markus Schulz couple of months ago. John Fleming last Saturday. Ok, only the first part of his show, a friend opened up for him, was there to support him! Oh yeah, Bassnectar at Burning Man. Amazing.

Wow. That was a long post and one that I have enjoyed reading. You should be on NaNoWriMo, lol. Anyway, I feel that you are dead spot on MMO competition here. You either be an authority or get squashed, and mind you that it can happen very quickly.

As with regards to your surviving tips, I believe that despite you saying that, there will still be people who will not do squat about it, and this is where I think that serious contenders may survive. What I mean here is that your tips are great, but take no action and nothing will happen. Good one…
