Marion, it depends:

* If you’re angling for SEO goodness, try and get your main keyword or keyphrase close to the beginning of the title.

* If you’re going for reader impact, don’t worry so much about it.

In the best case, you’ll get both, and those are the headlines to work for.

Whew, long post, but worth every single word of it:) Writing catchy titles requires a little bit of “exercise” and sometimes I just ask some close friends and family members what they think about it. If someone thinks that it is appealing then I’ll use it otherwise, back to the drawing board.

aw man. I searched for the other promised articles hoping you’d just forgotten to link them in but came up empty. ended up here through your Blog Post Engineering ebook, but now it’s time to go to work. You do have me focusing in on titles though. I definitely need to put more thought and effort into them.

Agree whole-heartedly, and the book recommendation does a very good job of getting the juices flowing on titles. Bad titles means they just click away and go somewhere else, or not even click to read it!
