Map
(Reading time: 1 – 2 minutes)
Here’s a mega-giant mind map for installing WordPress. This is really all anyone needs to create a killer WordPress web site. Have fun!
(Note: this is a little out of date for WordPress 2.8.x; I’ll update if I get enough requests.)
Flash plugin or Javascript are turned off.

Your Mac knowledge is out of date too – OS X has come with automatic unzipping which I understand is comparable to Windows’ for years now. Double click on a zip file to unzip it, no third party program needed.
And do you count configuring plugins as part of “configuring Wordpress”? I mentally think of “configuring wordpress” as configuring the base system, and would put “configure plugins” after that. YMMV of course
Yeah, this is out of date… I need to update it. I should take it down for now. I do have some big plans here. No time though.
I know what you mean about the big plans + no time/energy. It’s a problem I chronically suffer from too
How do you get the “subscribe to comments”/”you are subscribed” message to float up above the submit button? I like that!
r
@Ricky – Actually, I think that’s a “feature” in the Subscribe to Comments plugin.
This is such an invaluable piece of work. I just about managed to scroll around it on your site. I’d love to see it updated for the latest iteration of WP – though your schedule suggests to me it would be easier if you figured it out for v.3.0 to give yourself some time to think about it.
The other thing: how do I download the map to take a proper look round it myself? I can’t figure this one out and it’s impractical in the window size you’re using for the map here.
Fantastic work as ever, Dave!
Dave, I need to do work on both the map and this particular page, namely, run this page in full screen.
The map is “premium copy,” something that will probably move behind a membership firewall in the future.
Your suggestion for updating to 3.0 is right. I need to install the head of trunk on localhost anyway.
