Practical WordPress Tip #11: Spot check your posts

(Reading time: 2 – 2 minutes)

Benefit:Long term SEO success comes faster when all blog posts contain correctly formatted metadata, making it easier to index in search engine databases.

Problem: Getting all the details for metadata such as description, keywords, etc. correct when you initial write a post is tedious and difficult, and requires great discipline.

Practical WordPress Tip: Be a superstar, every day spot check a different, random post of pillar content for BPC items, keep a spreadsheet or other record of your checks.

Here’s how:

  1. Select a post at random, preferably one of your pillar content posts.
  2. Open the post in the WordPress editor and check for completed SEO metadata: SEO Title, SEO Description and SEO Keywords.

Why: This is one of the easiest Practical WordPress Tips to implement, at least technically. But it’s difficult because it’s tedious and boring! You could do this systematically by creating a schedule or spreadsheet and systematically check them all over time. Having a record of what has been checked and what needs to be checked provides additional motivation.
