Thanks for the pointer to the Permalink Finder plugin. That’s a new one on me.

One of the great things about leaving comments open for a long time it just what you have helped me with: keeping up to date!

Thanks, useful article, I was just getting psyched up to read the redirection article and your post was just the nudge I needed.
Another redirect plugin which I think is great and should address Dave’s issue is Permalink Finder: this searches for permalinks with similar names to the link: ideal if you have changed your permalink structure from date/posttitle to category/posttitle recently and lost all your permalinks or something equally frustrating

That’s a new for me.

Keep careful notes on what you’re doing. Being able to repeat problems is critical.

Also, redoing permalinks is on my schedule of things to get done in the near future.

I’ve installed Smart 404, and Redirect Old Slugs, but I still have one problem with redirection.

If I change categories AND shorten the permalink, it breaks. These plugins can’t find the new permalink. If I just do one or the other, it’s fine, but the two together wreak havoc. Any way to fix that?
